Frequently Asked Questions

You don’t have the instrument I would like to learn on the website, what should I do?

Please contact us as we have new tutors joining every day, and may have the perfect tutor for you.

What happens if I cannot make my lesson this week?

Speak to your tutor, as they will have a set process in place for this.

I only want lessons every other week, is that ok?

Yes, contact us to arrange lessons and we will make sure that the regularity of lessons suits you.

Why am I talking to the company instead of my tutor when I call to arrange lessons?

For the first contact, you will speak to someone other than your tutor. From that point onwards you will speak to your tutor to arrange lessons and discuss music plans. However, you are welcome to contact Melody Tutors at any time.

I don’t want to study for exams, do I have to?

Not at all, our tutors will guide you towards whatever goals you are aiming for. Whether that is exams, aiming to join a choir or orchestra, aiming to win a talent show, or just for fun.

I cannot do my lessons anymore, how do I cancel?

Speak to your tutor and they will cancel your lessons for you, you may have to give a notice period, the length of which is dependent on the contract you have signed.

What is the benefit of going through Melody Tutors?

There are a lot of music tutors out there, and we take the stress out of finding the right one for you. Each of our tutors is interviewed by us, and we take the time to make sure you are taught by the best person for your needs. Our teaching experience means that we are able to anticipate what you may need in a tutor, even if you haven’t yet realised it.

I don’t like my tutor, what should I do?

If you have any issues with your tutor, we would recommend that you raise this with them if you are comfortable. This is not always easy though, so please feel free to contact us, we can then discuss this with you and pass you over to another tutor if necessary. We would ask that you do feel free to raise any issues with us, so that we can address these if necessary for other student’s benefits.

I have changed my mind and would like to study towards exams, what should I do?

Speak to your tutor as they are likely to be able to do this for you. If they are unable to prepare you for exams, they will let us know and we will try to find someone suitable for you.

How do I pay for lessons?

This varies with each tutor. If you have any specific payment needs, please ensure you discuss these during your first phone call.

Will I need to buy any books?

Yes you will, but these will vary depending on what instrument you are learning. Music cannot be photocopied, so you will need to own any music you choose to learn. If you are unable to afford much music, your tutor will work with you to make your purchases as reasonable as possible.

Why should I find a tutor through you rather than all the other websites?

We are the only website who interviews our tutors, and finds the best one for your individual needs.

I really don’t like the style of music my tutor makes me play/sing, what should I do?

If you are comfortable to, we would recommend that you speak to your tutor. All of our tutors are passionate about music, and encouraging others to have that passion so they will have a wide knowledge of different types of music to teach you. If you are not comfortable discussing this with them, please contact us and we will help you.

I would like to learn to compose, but my tutor says he/she cannot teach me. Why?

Composing is a completely different skill to playing an instrument. Many of our tutors do offer this, so please contact us so that we can find you someone suitable.

I can no longer make my lesson times each week. What should I do?

Speak to your tutor who will try to arrange a different time with you. If you are unable to find a suitable new time, contact us and we will arrange a new tutor for you.

My tutor says he/she can only teach me on a certain day, why is this?

Many tutors do this as a second job, usually alongside something similar such as music teaching within a school or performing, so they often cannot commit every day.

I would like to start lessons, what do I do now?

Find a Tutor or contact us and we will help you get started.

If you have any further questions please contact us.
